Doing regular office jobs sitting long hours can be demanding on health as you need to hunch forward, your neck protrudes and your eyes get strained. A human body is not designed for lack of movement as it results into slower metabolism, low energy expenditure, obesity, diabetes, heart problems, bad posture, lower back pain, back and spine injuries, reduced social skills, depression, etc. Sitting too long can even increase the risk of cancer.

Any job that requires long hours sitting doing computer programming, accounting, writing etc being in one position for about 6 to 7 hours like that, hunched over a computer screen and typing in frenzy; it may lead you to musculoskeletal problems. Deep down we all realize that sitting such long hours cannot be good for us though we fail to discern just how bad could it be.

A desk job can be mentally exhausting as well if you don’t get to move around; as getting up from your chair and strolling a bit recharges you. While sitting you burn lesser amount of calories, lesser by about 30% moreover while sitting we end up with eating unnecessarily without actually having the need for a snack.

Hence incorporate more movement in your daily office schedule and try out these tips that will go with your busy schedule.

By doing regular stretches can significantly reduce your daily discomfort.

By making ergonomic changes in your office environment i.e. changing the desk design and sitting plan so as to make things less stressful for the abdomen.

If can go for a short stroll during the lunch hours.

Try to be a flexible worker and try to walk around as much as possible as sitting at your desk as a mere office worker will cause harm to your body. Keep a reminder on your phone to let you that after a while you need to walk around a bit. Even if you need to work from your desk try to stand for a while and do the chores as this way at least you will get to stretch your legs.

If possible try to have a few important meetings or brain storming sessions on the move to keep fit and keep stress away. Instead of emailing things to your office colleagues or passing information over a phone call try visiting them.

Take staircases and avoid elevators.

Instead of regular teas and coffees try to load up yourself with herbal teas.

Drink plenty of water so that you feel full and are less tempted to eat unnecessary snacks.
